What is tele-counselling?

This free tele-counselling program is a therapy program for caregivers, friends, and family of people living with dementia. Offered through phone calls, texting, and video appointments, participants will have the opportunity to connect one-on-one with a Licensed Counselling Therapist-C to discuss issues they are experiencing and learn coping strategies and tools to help them.

Therapy is about talking through the things that you want to talk about. For example, if someone is feeling overwhelmed, therapy would be a way to talk about feeling overwhelmed. This might mean literally talking about feeling overwhelmed. Or, it could be talking about juggling a lot of responsibilities. It might be about uncertainty- what will my future look like? What will happen to my loved one?

What will we discuss?

Through this program, participants are able to discuss topics or issues they are experiencing, and gain strategies and tools to address them.

Some of these issues could include:

  • grief
  • loneliness and isolation
  • depression
  • stress and feeling overwhelmed
  • anxiety and lack of control
  • communication issues
  • relationship issues
  • strong emotions
