Support groups provide an opportunity for people to share personal experiences and feelings, coping strategies, or firsthand information about dementia. Our groups bring together people who are going through or have gone through similar experiences.

You must be a registered client to attend our group sessions. Advanced registration is required. Please contact us for more information or to register:

Caregiver Support Group

This group is for spouse, family members or friends caring for a person with dementia. This group provides peer support and resources as well as coping strategies and information.

Sarnia Group:

  • Date: 2nd & 4th Wednesday of each month
  • Time: 1:30pm to 3:30pm
  • Place Alzheimer Society of Sarnia Lambton

Petrolia Group:

  • Date: 3rd Wednesday of the Month
  • Time: 10:00am to 12:00pm
  • Place: Central Lambton Family Health Team, Petrolia

Forest Group:

  • Date: 4th Wednesday of the Month
  • Time: 2:00pm - 3:30pm
  • Place: North Lambton Community Health Centre, Forest

Caregiver Support Group for Adult Children

This group focuses on the experiences of a care partner from the adult-child perspective. Reflect on care partner tips, care planning with others in a similar situation.

  • Time: 6:30pm to 8:30pm
  • Place: Alzheimer Society of Sarnia Lambton

Caregiver Support Group for Frontotemporal Dementia

This group has been designed for care partners supporting someone with a diagnosis or suspected diagnosis of Frontotemporal dementia. This form of dementia has unique characteristics. Specific coping strategies are discussed in this group.

  • Time: 6:30pm to 8:30pm

Enhancing Care Program​

An eight week program that runs weekly for two hours each week that focuses on practical skills and emotional supports needed to care for people living with dementia; teaches problem solving techniques to care partners and provides strategies for keeping a meaningful relationship with the person living with dementia. The program coaches care partners in communication skills through the use of simulation.​

Early Stage Support Group for People Living with Dementia

Life can be challenging as you adjust to your diagnosis of dementia. Feel free to share or just sit back and listen. You may discover some remarkable similarities.

  • Date: Bi-weekly on Thursdays
  • Time: 2:00pm to 3:30pm

Bereavement Support Group

This group provides support to our care partners who have lost a friend or family member who lived with dementia.

  • Dates and times to be determined based on need
