The Alzheimer Society Huron Perth provides many opportunities for information and support: Monthly Support Groups, Individual and Family counselling, and assistance with Care Plan Consultations with the aim to provide a safe place to share & receive information, thoughts, feelings, and experiences.

Caregiver Support Groups in Huron County

Our registered clients have an opportunity to attend monthly Caregiver Support Groups, providing a safe place for family caregivers of people living with any form of dementia to share concerns and experiences and learn from others

Each session offers information and support to family members and provides opportunities for questions about their caregiving roles.

Skilled facilitation ensures confidentiality and provides an educational component to increase the participants' confidence in their ability to care for their loved one.

Date: Third Wednesday of every month.

Date: Second Monday of every month.

Date: First Monday of every month.

Caregivers of a Person with Dementia Living in Long Term Care

A monthly support group specific to caregivers of a loved one in Long Term Care. 

Date: Fourth Wednesday of each month

Life After Dementia Support Program

This bereavement support program is offered to care partners who have lost a loved one in the dementia journey. The group includes an opportunity to meet with others, share stories, learn about grief and dementia, and explore ways of coping and moving forward following the loss. The group will offer both opportunities for education and time for discussion.

Early Stage Support Groups in Huron County

We offer Circle of Friends, a support group for our registered clients in the early stages of dementia.

This group is for persons diagnosed with early stage memory problems. The group provides an opportunity to meet with others to share ideas about living with memory loss and learn about a variety of group selected topics.

Individual support

Individualized supportive counseling is available for:

  • People living with a cognitive impairment due to mild cognitive impairment (MCI), Alzheimer’s disease or other dementia or an undiagnosed memory problem.
  • Care partners of people living with MCI, Alzheimer’s disease or other dementia or an undiagnosed memory problem.
  • Family of someone living with dementia.
  • Friends of someone living with dementia.

Counselling is confidential and is offered by telephone, email or in person at the Alzheimer Society office in Clinton, our satellite locations in Wingham or Zurich, or in the comfort of your own home.

Counselling and supportive listening

Staff of the Alzheimer Society are available to answer questions, provide information and support other services in the community related to dementia care.

A Family Support Counsellor (social worker) provides supportive counselling to individuals and their family caregivers across Huron County affected by dementia, using a client centered approach.

The Family Support Counsellor can link clients with appropriate community agencies and resources based on their needs and requests. This service is delivered in office, by telephone, email, and home visits, utilizing both individual and group approaches.

Individual Care Plan consultations

Society staff are available to assist long-term care homes and community service providers with developing care plans for individuals living with Alzheimer's disease and other dementias.
